Equipment Needed:

gymnasium
2 badminton nets (for 6 courts)
8 poles ( to hold nets)
30 rackets
54 shuttles

Attendance

2 minutes

Warm-up

begin with a light jog forward 
jog backwards
zigzag backwards
light jog forward
shuffle step facing the court
shuffle step facing the wall 
light jog forward
reach for the ground 
- when the teacher says "right" the students touch the ground with their right hand
- when the teacher says "left" the students touch the ground with their left hand
whistle blow means "jump"
light jog forward

Stretching

3 minutes

Clear/Smash/Drop

one person begins by clearing the shuttle, the other person smashes, then the other person returns the smash in a drop shot (keep the cycle going)
proper grip
footwork
try and keep a rally going with your partner
half court

Activity #2                                                                                                             Top
Drives
 

the drive is an important shot to learn in doubles
body should be facing the net
hit the shuttle in front of you 
keep your racquet up
contact shuttle with a flat racquet face
on contact, straighten your arm (like you pushing through the shuttle)
swing on a flat plane, no upward motion
use wrist snap when contacting the shuttle 
transfer your weight (from back foot to front foot) to drive the shuttle
bend your knees to get a better angle on the shuttle
follow through in the same line as the flight of the shuttle
get the students to partner up and practice driving the shuttle to one another continuously

talk about positions in doubles badminton strategy 
side to side and front to back
constant rotation of both players during a rally
shot selection (drop shot, drive, smash, and net shots)

Doubles Tournament
 

begin doubles badminton tournament 
see tournament list
see tournament schedule
4 matches (approximately 10 minutes each)
1 minute between each match
45 minutes
